A series of international thematic events are organised to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of Ignac Semmelweis (1 July, 1818 - 13 August, 1865), also listed as a notable anniversary by UNESCO.

The events will be held with the involvement of the state secretariat for cultural diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,  the Ministry for Human Resources, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the National Innovation Office, the Hungarian UNESCO Committee and Semmelweis University.

Together with a smaller data collection in connection with the life and achievements of the great physician, the Central Library of Semmelweis University has several books written by and about Semmelweis.

As a tribute to his life and work, parts of the collection will be displayed on the website.
