[...] During Semmelweis's six years in the Rochus Hospital, 933 deliveries took place. Out of 933 cases, 24 died, but only 8 (0.85 per cent) from puerperal fever, with 16 other puerperae having been  carried of by other diseases. This result was at that time amazing, as in Prague and Vienna the mortality rate of puerperal fever was still as high as 10-15 per cent. [...]

 

 [...] In 1934 the Medical Society of the Public Hospital placed a plaque on the wall of the hospital in order to commemorate his work there. [...]
