Ignaz Semmelweis 'The Etiology, Concept and Prophylaxis of Childbed Fever'
This content has been modified after the translation.

Semmelweis’s main work Die Ätiologie, der Begriff und die Prophylaxis des Kindbettfiebers (German for 'The Etiology, Concept and Prophylaxis of Childbed Fever', which contains his essays written between 1847 and 1861, was published in Vienna 154 years ago, in 1861. After it was published, Semmelweis sent a copy to the Hungarian Royal Council of Governor.

They asked for the opinion of the doctors of the medical school in Pest, so thus, on September 1, 1862, an official rule was made to put Semmelweis’s suggestion into medical practice. Contrary to the Hungarian reception, Semmelweis got a lot of criticism and even rejection from his colleagues in other countries, saying that his discovery was too simple. Later, this led to  conspicuous worsening of his health.
